Royalty certainly has its perks – at least, that is, if you are indeed real royalty.
31-year old Joseph Lawrence Borowiak learned the hard way that he is definitely not “the kingâ€, as he referred to himself during a robbery of a 7-Eleven store in Warren, Michigan. Borowiak was arrested by Warren Police after informing the clerk he was “the king†and didn’t have to pay for cigarettes. Borowiak reportedly threatened the clerk and fought with police when they arrived.
Police obtained a warrant over the weekend that charged Borowiak with strong armed robbery, resisting arrest and obstruction. Borowiak allegedly walked into the convenience store at 6:30 a.m. wearing a blue bandana over his face. He asked for a pack of cigarettes and when the cashier asked for $6 in payment, he allegedly told her, “The king doesn’t pay for cigarettes.â€Â Borowiak then lunged over the counter and swung at the clerk, before fleeing. A witness followed the man and called police with his location.
Officers spotted Borowiak walking in front of a funeral home, where they were able to apprehend him after a short scuffle. He was tasered, but still had to be tackled by several officers.
Borowiak has a prior conviction for possession of cocaine.
