Deadly Carjacking Leave 1 Dead 3 Injured In Pine Bluff Arkansas

At approximately 7:30 pm on December 16th, 2011 Officers and Detectives of the Pine Bluff Police Department responded the area of University Avenue and Highway 65. 26 year old Courtney Lewis attempted to rob several people. The initial robbery failed, and having shot a 28 year old black male in the arm, Courtney Lewis attempted to flee the scene in a vehicle.

Upon wrecking the vehicle he allegedly tried to steal a vehicle occupied by two adult black females and four children. When he could not get in the vehicle he fired shots into the vehicle striking the two adults. One lady was shot in the leg and the second was shot in the hand. None of the children were harmed. Lewis then ran to a nearby parked vehicle, fatally shooting the driver stole the vehicle, but wrecked a second time.

He then fled on foot and fought officers in a nearby ravine before being taken into custody. A Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputy tasked Lewis during the apprehension, but Lewis was extremely combative and had to be physically subdued. The weapon believed to have been used in the incident was recovered in the ravine in the same area Lewis was captured.

The four gunshot victims were taken to Jefferson Regional Medical Center where 51 year old black male Kenneth Donnell Davis was pronounced dead at 8:12 pm. The three remaining victim appear to be in stable condition and are currently being treated at the hospital for their injuries which at this time appear to be non-life threatening.

Courtney Lewis was transported to the hospital to be examined. After arriving at the hospital Lewis fled from the emergency room and was apprehended a short time later hiding on hospital grounds.

Courtney Lewis was arrested and initially charged on Probable Cause for one count of Capital.
