A tragic shooting at Antioch High School in Tennessee has left the family of 16-year-old Josselin Corea Escalante devastated. Josselin was shot and killed in the school cafeteria on Wednesday morning by a 17-year-old student, Solomon Henderson, authorities confirmed.
“I want to remember my daughter alive, having her by my side,” her father, German Corea, said through a translator. “Sadly, it’s impossible.”
Upon hearing about the incident, Josselin’s parents rushed to the school, only to witness medics desperately attempting to save her life as she was transported to the hospital. Despite their efforts, Josselin was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Her father expressed confusion and heartbreak over why his daughter became a victim, noting that she was kind, had no disciplinary issues, and was beloved by those around her. “She was my eyes,” Corea shared. “Wherever I was going, she was coming with me. She was very close to me. I feel so bad because I am never going to see my daughter again.”
The Corea family, originally from Guatemala, moved from Boston to Nashville three years ago. They had expressed concerns about safety at Antioch High School, particularly the lack of metal detectors on campus.
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing as the family grieves their unimaginable loss.
