Mississippi district attorney Matthew Barton has introduced House Bill 1484, a controversial proposal that would establish the Mississippi Illegal Alien Certified Bounty Hunter Program. Under this program, registered bounty hunters would be rewarded $1,000 for each successful deportation they assist with.
“This legislation is about keeping Mississippi communities safe,” said Republican state Rep. Justin Keen, the bill’s author.
If passed, the bill would formalize a state-backed bounty system aimed at curbing illegal immigration. The proposal has already sparked debate over its potential implications and legality. Further discussions are expected in the state legislature.
