Crystal City, TX – On the morning of August 30, 2024, law enforcement officers and emergency responders were called to a serious motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Pecos Street and North Avenue B in Crystal City. The incident, reported at approximately 7:26 A.M., involved a single overturned vehicle found in a creek near the intersection.
Upon arrival, Deputy 746, Investigator #791, and Captain #797 discovered three injured female occupants outside the overturned vehicle. According to the victims, the accident resulted from a road rage encounter with a blue/gray GMC pickup truck, reportedly driven by Gerardo Gomez Jr. The victims indicated that the aggressive driving of the pickup caused them to lose control, leading to the crash.
Emergency Medical Services (EMS) provided immediate first aid at the scene. Two of the women sustained severe injuries and were airlifted to hospitals in San Antonio for further treatment. The third victim received treatment for less serious injuries.
The vehicle was later towed from the scene by Tavos Wrecker Service.
Following the incident, Gerardo Gomez Jr. was arrested and charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon causing serious bodily injury and three counts of collision involving personal injury or death. The Crystal City Police Department and the Crystal City Volunteer Fire Department provided crucial assistance during the response.
