The bus, which was traveling westbound, suddenly veered off the highway and overturned. Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the accident. Six individuals were pronounced dead at the scene, while a seventh succumbed to injuries later at Merit Health Hospital in Vicksburg.

In addition to the fatalities, 37 passengers sustained injuries and were transported to nearby hospitals in Vicksburg and Jackson.
