ANDERSON, Ind. – A teenager has been formally charged with the rape of a 93-year-old Anderson woman, police announced Monday.
Iquise Taylor, 17, is charged with rape, burglary, criminal confinement and strangulation, and he has been waived to adult court.
Taylor is accused in the July sexual assault of 93-year-old Amelia Rudolf.
RTV6 does not usually identify victims of sexual assault, but Rudolf and her family opted to attend and participate in an Anderson Police news conference Monday afternoon.
“I didn’t think I would live long enough to see who did it. I’m happy it turned out the way it is,” Rudolf said.
According to the probable cause affidavit, investigators found Taylor’s DNA on Rudolf’s body.
“The DNA is found within the victim’s person. A rape kit was forwarded to the state police lab. That bodily specimen that was recovered from the victim’s body matches the DNA of the young man in custody,” Madison County Prosecutor Rodney Cummings said.
Police said Taylor lived within in a block of Rudolf’s house near Pulaski Park, but they don’t know if he targeted her specifically.
Sources told RTV6 that Taylor is familiar with the Madison County criminal justice system, but specific details about previous arrests or charges were not immediately released.
Officials did say that Taylor is a person of interest in another rape case, but investigators are awaiting lab results.
Taylor is being held on $100,000 bond.
