NEW ORLEANS (CNN/WWL) — Police are searching for a third suspect in the shooting of a New Orleans police officer.
44-year-old Officer Jonathan Smith was shot multiple times while working a detail at a restaurant early Sunday morning.
Investigators say Smith returned fire against the three suspects — who then drove off in an S-U-V.
Smith was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive.
Police were later called out to a report of a man shot at an apartment complex.
There, officers say they found one of the suspects, 34-year-old Cornelius Barthelemy, with a gunshot wound and rushed him to the hospital.
A second suspect was found dead inside a car — and the third is still on the loose.
Investigators still do not have a motive for the shooting. Police say the third suspect, who goes by the nickname Renegade, is still at large.New Orleans police are urging anyone who knows where he might be to call Crimestoppers at 822-1111.
