MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) – Rapper BlocBoy JB is in jail hours before he was scheduled to perform at Beale Street Music Festival.
The 22-year-old rapper, whose real name is James Baker, was booked Friday morning on charges of speeding, possessing a handgun as a convicted felon, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Shelby County sheriff’s deputies were doing surveillance in the area of Baker’s home where a detective could smell marijuana burning from outside.
Deputies saw Baker leave the home in a Ford Fusion and drive down Forest Hill Irene at a high rate of speed. A deputy pulled him over for speeding and noticed a handgun on the floor of the car.
Since Baker is a convicted felon, the officer detained him and obtained a search warrant for the home.
There, officers found a glass jar of marijuana, two scales, a loaded Glock 27 .40 caliber, and a box with 33 rounds of .40 caliber ammo, 100 rounds of .223 ammo, and 129 rounds of 9mm ammo. In another room, they found a diamondback rifle loaded with a 50 round drum, another magazine and a laser sight. In another room, they found another loaded diamondback rifle.
Downstairs, officerrs found a Glock 34 9mm loaded with 24 rounds.
