Nelly Furtado Gives Props to Indian Singer

More and more, we are seeing parallels between Hollywood and Bollywood – that is, similarities between North American and Indian entertainment.

In the latest example of the fusion between the two entertainment sets, Indian singer Lata Mangeshkar has picked up a fan here in the west.  Nelly Furtado, a native of Canada, spoke with Bollywood.com.  In her interview, she indicated her interest in Mangeshkar’s music.

Furtado says of her Mangeshkar, “I have listened to Lata Mangeshkar and I really like her songs.” Furtado’s greatest hits compilation was released this past November.  She previously credited Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan among her music influences.

Furtado won a Grammy in 2000 for her hit single ‘I’m Like A Bird’, a cut from the album ‘Whoa Nelly’.

With our world seemingly getting smaller and smaller, we are very likely going to see additional parallels between our music and entertainment venues and that of India and beyond.

  1. I am a fan of both Lata Mangeshkar and Nelly . Lata Mangeshkar has a very sweet and melodious voice while Nelly has her own unique voice. She could be the next Lata Mangeshkar with a modern twist. We have fusion food so why not fusion entertainment.
