Chicago police reported that early Thursday morning, two women were killed as they used their bodies as shields to protect children and others during a mass shooting on the city’s South Side. The incident in the Grand Crossing neighborhood resulted in the deaths of the two women and an 8-year-old child. On Thursday evening, the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that the 8-year-old boy had succumbed to his injuries. Two other children, ages 5 and 8, remain in critical condition at Comer Children’s Hospital.
