One of the absolute most powerful and influential series in the history of television just concluded its fourth season, with a fifth expected to drop in 2026. 50 Cent and the Starz channel’s “Raising Kanan”, a prequel to “Power”, has some of the most upper echelon casting in all of entertainment history. Thanks to showrunner Sascha Penn, the writing is absolutely unbelievably realistic. Anyone who came of age in the 90’s can attest to this. And the show features one of the most beloved characters imaginable, “Uncle Marvin”, played by entertainer extraordinare London Brown.

Mr. Brown is an incredibly talented actor, comedian, dancer, and all-around influential entertainment figure. Hailing from Los Angeles, he brings a much needed fresh approach to his art. He introduced one of the most endearing characters in Uncle Marvin, searing his presence into viewers’ minds and hearts like no one before him. No other actor could have brought Marvin to life on the screen in the way in which Mr. Brown has done. You may remember him from the Fuse channel’s “The Hustle” or HBO’s “Ballers” where he stole the show alongside Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. His influence is undeniable and he is already taking his place among the superstars of this generation. In addition to acting and other talents, he is a successful comedian currently touring the nation, selling out shows in each city. To add to his many achievements, he has a large following on social media, with fans tuning in daily to hear his thoughts on life, relationships and just about any interesting topic you can dream up.

If the old saying “the sky is the limit” is true, Mr. Brown is set to soar into outer space. It remains to be seen what is in store for Uncle Marvin in the upcoming fifth season of Raising Kanan, but all we know is his character had better last. If Marvin doesn’t, we ride at dawn! Marvin’s fans are ready to spin the block for him at a moment’s notice. You can’t help but fall in love with the wisecracking, animated, Doritos eating portrayal of the beloved and loyal gangster who has become the center of the Power Universe.

“Uncle Marvin” on the red carpet

If you have not delved into the Power franchises, what are you waiting on? We recommend watching (OG) Power first and then make sure to watch Raising Kanan afterward. Raising Kanan offers an incredibly accurate depiction of life in Jamaica Queens during the early 1990’s, the cataclysmic time period in which Hip Hop and urban life really took root. The fashion, soundtrack, casting, and action of Raising Kanan are unmatched and will have you hooked from the very first episode. The series also stars Malcolm Mays, Patina Miller, Joey Bada$s, Mekai Curtis, Omar Epps, Shameik Moore, Haley Kilgore, Wendell Pierce, and many more soon to be household names.
