If ever there was an American heroine, Kellie Wells is that heroine.
Rising from the ashes of a harsh youth, Kellie worked hard to overcome obstacles that included abuse, losing her mother as a teen and, among other things, a torn hamstring – a runner’s kryptonite.
Wells was told she would never run again following the 2008 injury. Fast forward from the moment she was told she may never run again to the moment when she crossed the finish line of the 100 meter hurdle event, and it’s pretty easy to assume that must be one of the greatest feelings on this planet.
Kellie Wells brought home the Bronze Medal for the United States. Nothing can take away the sense of accomplishment that comes with such a feat – but to know that the runner who endured some of life’s most challenging issues has won a Bronze Medal for her country is something our country can be so proud of – a true win, if you will.
An interviewer who spoke with Wells following her win may have fought to quiet the stir caused by Wells and her teammates. Truth is though, nothing can extinguish her flame. She respects her fellow teammates and it is obvious that Wells wants nothing more than to celebrate her win and more importantly, her country’s win. As a positive female who has overcome adversity after adversity in her lifetime, Wells has chosen to pursue only positive avenues and she wants to embrace everything that comes along with being an Olympic champion.
The Heat Magazine salutes Wells, as she is the epitome of accomplishment. She is also a staunch representation of empowerment and what hard work can do in order to overcome adversity. #SALUTE
