It isn’t often that The Heat Magazine comes across an artist of this caliber – in a genre that is so uplifting. Don’t get us wrong – we feature nothing but true talent – and though Jay-Will certainly falls into that category, his music is truly positive and uplifting, to the extent that it is set apart.
Jay-Will just released his new, high energy single, “For the Gloryâ€, and it is available for download on CD-Baby, iTunes, Amazon, and several other major music download sites.
Jay-Will, whose real name is Jason Williams, released “The Testimony of a Young Preacher†in 2005. Jay-Will tells The Heat Magazine that he wrote this song after a close friend fell impossibly ill and because of that, he was moved to pen the tune. Jay-Will says,â€The impossible things are Glory opportunities for Godâ€.
Here are a few other things Jay-Will had to say:
THE HEAT MAGAZINE: Growing up, what were your musical influences?
JAY-WILL: My musical influences were many as a child. Although my father was pretty strict about what we listened to, I still managed to keep up with music that was hot. Michael Jackson, Al Green, Donnie Hathaway, Marvin Winans, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Marvin Gaye, and Sam Cooke were all very big influences on me musically, growing up.
THE HEAT MAGAZINE: Your music has a very positive message. To what or whom do you attribute that?
JAY-WILL: I attribute the positive nature of my music to my general perspective on life. Contrary to popular belief, I think that people are good and we are all just the sum total of our experiences. I write about the experience in my music. That is not to say that I haven’t had bad experiences, but I think that the bad experiences have taught me to appreciate and cherish the positive ones.
THE HEAT MAGAZINE: What are your plans for the future?
JAY-WILL: My plans for the future are to continue to put out good music that people can relate to. My goal has always been to make music that will out live me and be relevant in time to come. My team and I are planning a promotional tour in the near future and I am eager to hit the road to spread this positive music to a country that is feeling the pinch on every level. About the conditions some of us are living in right now I say, “It’s really going to get better.”  I believe that.
The next time you hear someone down the music industry by claiming there is too much negativity in the lyrics, you can set them straight and direct them toward Jay-Will.
