A Florida woman has claimed she was raped on Twitter.
‘I didn’t think he would let me live’, the unidentified woman posted.
She also wrote: ‘6’2′ black man w scruffy beard blue shirt tan shorts driving commercial truck..broke into wayne & raped me. Glad I’m alive’.
Wayne’ is what the 24-year-old white woman calls the renovated school bus she lives in, after one of its manufacturers, according to local news WTSP.
She reportedly parks the bus, which is painted white, in different locations at night to sleep, often in the Ybor City neighbourhood of Tampa, Florida.
Police say the alleged attack happened around 7:30 a.m. Friday, in the area of 16th Street and 6th Avenue East in Ybor City.
Initial media reports claimed police first found out about the alleged attack over Twitter, but Tampa police now claim they had received a 911 call about the incident before they knew about the tweets.
There’s nothing illegal about living on a bus, although the woman recently got a parking ticket in it, reports WTSP.
After the alleged attack, the woman also posted to her Twitter account: ‘I want him in jail for what he did’.
Later, she wrote on Twitter: ‘Never thought this would happen in a, million years’.
Tampa police say they are investigating the alleged incident, and they told WTSP they have ‘several strong leads.’ They have released a description of the alleged attacker that mirrors what the woman is said to have posted on Twitter.
The police alert adds that the man being sought in connection to the case has a dark complexion.
Police say the woman was taken to the Nurse Examiner’s Office for an examination.
Passerby Sarah Allen, who works in the area, told WTSP: ‘I was quite shocked number one that someone was living there, and that something could happen so close to where I work.’
WTSP adds that the alleged victim had her birthday less than two weeks ago.
Ybor City is an historic district just northeast of downtown Tampa. It was originally founded by immigrants from Spain, Italy and Cuba who worked in cigar factories, and it retains a diverse population.
The neighbourhood fell into decline during the Great Depression and after, but now hosts a revived night-life scene.
Ybor City is a National Historic Landmark District, and in 2008, local 7th Avenue was called one of the ’10 Great Streets in America’ by the American Planning Association.
