It wasn’t quite what he had in mind when he decided to liven up his pre-packaged bag of salad with some croutons.
John Jones, from Saginaw Township, Michigan, was disgusted when he found a disembowelled mouse buried in the mixed leaves on his dinner plate.
At the sight of the dead rodent, which was lying on its back with the insides spilling on to the plate, he immediately ran to the bathroom and threw up.

He told NBC25: ‘I moved a couple of leaves and there was a mouse, a dead mouse laying on its back, and you could see the guts hanging out.’
Mr Jones claims he found the grisly mouse in a bag of Dole Tender Garden salad, which is supposed to contain ‘a robust blend of delicate baby greens and lettuces, earthy baby spinach and sweet carrots (that) temper peppery radicchio and the invigorating bite of frisée’ – not a rodent in sight.
He and his girlfriend, Ebony Wright, as well as her seven-year-old son, had already eaten some of the salad, so they immediately rushed to the emergency room.
Doctors released all three after an examination and said they would suffer no ill-effects.
But Mr Jones said he still feels sick every time he eats. He told the Saginaw News: ‘If it had been a roach or something like that it would have been one thing, but we’re talking about a mouse chopped at the end and the guts were coming out.
‘It’s going to be years (that it’s) going to have a psychological impact on me. Everything I eat, I’m just grossed out.’
The couple called the Kroger store, where they bought the salad, as well as Dole.
Both firms offered to refund the $2.49 he’d paid for the bag, but Mr Jones said he felt it wasn’t enough.
