A local university leader steps down and students and school leaders weigh in.
Yesterday, the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff Chancellor Lawrence Davis Jr. sent an e-mail to students, staff, and faculty saying he was resigning in May.
He said, “Over these years with limited resources I served to the best of my ability. However, I am now anticipating the realization of other aspirations.”
About a month ago, an audit revealed about $700,000 was unaccounted for at the school.
Four people were fired as a result of the audit released in February.
He denied the allegations in the audit in a student assembly on Feb. 29th saying money was not missing. He said it was all documented.
When some students heard about about his resignation on campus Thursday; they said he would be missed.
“I came here to get my education, not to worry about where my money’s going and if it’s being mishandled,” said freshman Brandon Martin.
Sophomore Edward Hayes said, “I’m angry. You’re the chancellor. You’re supposed to be supporting the students that’s going to the school.”
The President of the University of Arkansas School System Donald Bobbit released a statement saying he appreciated for Davis’ service.
