Tia Wimbush and Susan Ellis At Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta
(Good News Network)- -Co-workers Tia Wimbush and Susan Ellis both were having casual conversation, when coincidentally they both discovered that they were in similar situations.
Wimbush and Susan who both work at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta were surprised to know that during their engagement, both of their husbands were in need of a kidney transplant, and they were both on the waiting list. As they discussed in detail the conditions that their husbands were in and the topic of blood types were mentioned. To their surprise they soon realized that they may be a potential donor match for each other’s husband. Tia explains to Good Morning America about how she quickly let her husband Rodney know about the news. “My thought immediately was that we could help each other and stop the suffering of two families,” Tia told Good Morning America. “I called Rodney immediately and he and I were both just committed to moving forward and trying to help two families.”
Tests were ran and it just so happens that Tia and Susan were definite matches for each other’s husband. Tia and Susan got the green light to donate their kidneys, and were approved last October. Susan’s husband Lance was hospitalized which caused the procedure to be delayed for a later date. Once Lance was well again the procedure was due to happen January but another bump in the road came about and Susan contracted Coronavirus and had no choice but to quarantine until she was well. After Susan was all well they rescheduled for March 19 and this time everything worked out and the transplants were both successful.
