A former American Airlines ticket agent in San Jose, Calif. has been accused of stealing almost half a million dollars from passengers by using their credit card numbers to purchase gift cards.
The 49-year-old woman, Micheline Johnson, stole credit card data while working at the airline ticket counter at the Mineta San Jose International Airport between 2007 and 2010.
Johnson, who is married to a California Highway Patrol officer, allegedly bought $100 gift cards from different Safeway grocery stores, used the cards to make purchases and then sold many of the items on eBay, according to authorities. She was only found out when another person who had been involved turned on her.
“She was very good at the way she did it, and frankly, nobody knew it was going on until a person that was involved came forward and ratted her out,” Flattery said.
