Through hard work and perseverance, a few people actually do acquire celebrity status.  With that status, comes perks and swag beyond most of our wildest imaginations.  And so it is with Louisiana’s own DJ Who.

The Heat Magazine caught up with DJ Who this week to discuss his experience at the 53rd Grammy Awards.  DJ Who is a well rounded entertainer – he is a mixtape DJ, record promoter, photographer, publicist, CEO, and entrepreneur who works with Ozone Magazine and his very own Gothic ENT.

DJ Who, who is also a member of the Grammy Academy, was in Los Angeles for Grammy Week.  He was able to participate in much of what the Grammys had to offer.

Here is The Heat Magazine’s interview with DJ Who:

THE HEAT MAGAZINE: How long have you been attending the Grammys?

DJ WHO: I got my first official invite from the Academy in 2007.

THE HEAT MAGAZINE: What has been your most interested & memorable experience at the Grammys?

DJ WHO: My most memorable experience was being only 2 feet from the stage at the 51st Awards.  Jennifer Hudson performed for the first time since losing her mother.  Jay Z, Lil Wayne, M.I.A., and TI performed “Swagger Like Us” together for the first and probably the only time in history. M.I.A. was also due to deliver her baby, so EMTs were hiding everywhere. The fear was that she would fall or her water would break backstage and the performance wouldn’t happen as planned.

THE HEAT MAGAZINE: What kind of events, after parties, etc. have you attended?

DJ WHO: There’s one official after party for members of the Academy and 10-15 private events during the weekend, all with gourmet food, free gifts and/or an open bar. Each of the major labels throws a party for talent and staff. The official afterparty (“The Celebration”) is catered by Wolfgang Puck and has more food and alcohol than you’ve ever seen in your life. This year I also attended the private Brian Michael Cox Pre-Grammy Brunch in Beverly Hills (a gourmet breakfast for 100 people with unlimited champagne) and a Bel Air mansion party thrown by record exec Steve Rifkind. Celebs like Akon, Brandy, Teddy Riley etc were in attendance. Diddy, Justin Beiber and Kanye West were denied entry to the Bel Air event when the road leading to the house became blocked with luxury cars.

DJ Who will be appearing at the Southern Entertainment Awards in Memphis, Tennessee from March 5-8, 2011.  DJ Who is also a co-sponsor of the Arkansas Urban Music Awards being held April 25-17, 2011.  To learn more about the Arkansas Urban Music Awards, visit http://www.arurbanmusicawards.com/.
