A Victoria, Texas police officer is under investigation for tasing a 76-year-old man during a traffic stop on Thursday in an incident captured on the officer’s dashboard camera.
The officer, 23-year-old Nathanial Robinson, pulled over Pete Vasquez after he spotted an expired inspection sticker on the car Vasquez is driving. Vasquez pulled into Adam’s Auto Mart, the car dealership where he works and which owns the car he was driving.
Robinson got out of his car and approached Vasquez about the sticker. Vasquez pointed to the dealer tags on the car, which meant the car was exempt from inspection.
Robinson grabbed Vasquez, who pulled away. Robinson then slammed Vasquez to the ground out of the camera’s field of view. At this time, Victoria police say, Robinson tased Vasquez twice.
“He just acted like a pit bull, and that was it,” Vasquez can be heard telling another police officer later in the video. “For a while, I thought he was going to pull his gun and shoot me.”
Vasquez spent two hours in police custody at the hospital. Robinson was placed on administrative leave on Friday pending the result of an investigation on whether he used excessive force by tasing Vasquez.
