Corsicana, TX — A brutal incident at Collins Intermediate School in Corsican Independent School District has left an assistant principal permanently blind in one eye. Candra Rogers was attacked by an 11-year-old student in a classroom, leaving her in need of immediate medical attention.
The incident occurred when Rogers entered a classroom to intervene after the student had already assaulted a classmate. Upon entering, she was met with flying chairs and was struck in the right eye by a coat hanger. The impact of the hanger was severe, knocking her eye out of its socket.
“The hanger hit me in my right eye and knocked it out of the socket. I grabbed my face while blood was pouring out of my head and stumbled out of the classroom door,” Rogers recounted to a local ABC affiliate.
Rogers was airlifted to a hospital for urgent treatment and is expected to undergo reconstructive surgery. Medical professionals have indicated that she may lose her right eye altogether.
The 11-year-old student responsible for the attack was taken into custody and is expected to face the juvenile equivalent of an aggravated assault charge. The incident has shocked the school community and raised concerns about safety measures within the school district.
