Fort Walton Beach, Florida is a vacation paradise nestled along the Emerald Coast of the Florida Panhandle. Apparently, it is also home to several mental giants who unwittingly concocted a scheme to get a discount on a drug purchase.
27-year old Gregory Dewayne Murphy reportedly stepped in to help his friend negotiate for a lower price on a crack purchase in Okaloosa County. The problem with that was the purchase was part of a sting operation run by the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office’s Street Crimes Unit.
At around 2:30 a.m. on January 15th, Murphy’s friend, 29-year old Benjamin Bonds, parked in the lot of the Pinecrest Mobile Home Park on Racetrack Road. When an undercover deputy approached the Buick occupied by the duo, Bonds asked to purchase $60 worth of crack cocaine. Murphy was riding shotgun and “participated in the negotiation for the crack cocaine with me and Bonds,†according to the police report.
Bonds and Murphy were both arrested at the scene and charged with felony cocaine possession with intent to purchase a Schedule II narcotic.
