The 47-year-old’s sudden death was announced on Saturday but now a family friend has revealed that he passed away after collapsing at the gym while on vacation with friends and family.
Dave Goldberg, the CEO of SurveyMonkey and husband to Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg, died of severe head trauma in an exercise accident, according to a Mexican official.
The 47-year-old died on Friday at a gym in a private resort in Mexico.
A family friend revealed that he passed away after exercising while on the trip with friends and family and that efforts to revive Goldberg at the gym and the hospital were unsuccessful.
Goldberg leaves behind his wife of 11 years, who has not commented on her husband’s death, and their two children. The family is now planning a service in California.
