Putting Our Residents First: A Night of Vision and Celebration

The 2025 State of the Ward Address

Mayor Pro Tem Jamelle McKenzie Inspires with Leadership, Transparency, and Community Focus

On Thursday, January 16, 2025, in College Park, Georgia, the Ward One community gathered for an event that was nothing short of spectacular—the State of the Ward address hosted by none other than Councilwoman Jamelle McKenzie, now honored as our Mayor Pro Tem for the remainder of the year. The atmosphere buzzed with anticipation, and the event unfolded as a shining testament to the spirit of collaboration and care that defines her leadership.

WARD 1 VISION STATEMENT

“WRITE THE VISION AND MAKE IT PLAIN.” HABAKKUK 2:2

The evening showcased the collaborative efforts of key figures and representatives who play vital roles in our community. Special recognition goes to Byron Amos, District 3 Councilman of the City of Atlanta; Bill Marks, Moderator; Special Project Coordinator Pamela Grier; BZA Representative Michael Lindsay; Planning Commission member Tina Hill; CPMSA Representative Ebony Austin; Keep College Park Beautiful Coordinator Brandy Heard; and myself, serving as Constituent Communications Director. Although unable to attend, Karen Jeremie, DMO Representative, and Dr. Leithea Williams, BIDA Representative, were acknowledged for their contributions.

Mayor Pro Tem McKenzie’s humility shone through as she redirected the spotlight to the community members whose voices and contributions made the evening’s successes possible. From youth ambassadors to senior advocates, she highlighted the diverse spectrum of Ward One’s strength. Each story she shared was a reminder of her deep connection to the people she serves—a quality that has earned her the trust and admiration of many.

Mayor Pro Tem McKenzie exemplifies transparency in every facet of her leadership. During the event, she candidly shared the financial statistics and achievements of the past 12 months, providing insight into the progress made under her tenure as Councilmember of Ward One. Her willingness to openly discuss both triumphs and challenges reflects her truthfulness and unwavering commitment to accountability. This transparency is a cornerstone of her leadership, fostering trust and reinforcing her role as a servant leader.

She leads not by dictating but by guiding with humility, empowering those around her to play an active role in the community’s betterment. Her focus on projects that revitalize Ward One and the city as a whole underscores her dedication to sustainable progress. Whether it’s initiatives aimed at economic growth, public safety, or community engagement, Mayor Pro Tem McKenzie’s vision remains centered on the betterment of all.

Under her leadership, the event was more than a platform for addressing challenges; it was a celebration of progress and hope. The evening’s highlights included the unveiling of initiatives aimed at fostering economic growth, enhancing public safety, and strengthening community ties. Yet, it was her ability to weave personal stories into these broader goals that left a lasting impression. Attendees felt seen and valued, a testament to her empathetic leadership style.

As Mayor Pro Tem McKenzie continues to lead with kindness and purpose, her tenure promises to be a chapter defined by community-driven progress and unwavering dedication. The State of the Ward event served as a reminder that leadership is not about standing above others but walking alongside them—a philosophy she embodies effortlessly.

In the words of one attendee, “She’s not just a leader; she’s a beacon of hope for our community.” It is this hope, paired with her authenticity and humility, that will undoubtedly guide Ward One and College Park to even greater heights in the months ahead.
