A prominent Clarksdale attorney was shot and killed Friday afternoon.
Clarksdale coroner Scotty Meredith and Clarksdale Mayor Bill Luckett, both witnesses to the incident, confirmed that Ellis Pittman was shot. Paramedics are airlifting him to the hospital in Memphis.
Luckett later confirmed that Pittman died from his injuries.
Meredith happened to be a witness to the aftermath of the shooting because his office is close to where it happened.
Luckett added that the suspect, Ricardo Frayser, was on the run. He is now in police custody.
Pittman is also a Tunica County administrator and owns a hospice care center in Clarksdale.
In 2014, the Federal Bureau of Investigation served a warrant in the hospice center that sought Medicare records. Questions of fraud surrounded the investigation.
