PHENOM 101: Jive Recording Artist K. Michelle

The Phenomenal K. Michelle

“I just want to be a voice and I just want people to hear my story.” – Jive Recording Artist/Phenom, K. Michelle

Uplifting: inspirational; offering or providing hope, encouragement, salvation, etc.

Uplifting” is definitely the word that The Heat Magazine will use to describe R&B sensation, K. Michelle.

She is down to earth, intelligent, humble, inspirational, and most importantly, she loves and appreciates her fans. K. Michelle is one artist you definitely want to watch – she is making moves and doing some really colossal things.  It won’t be long before she is a household name.

Signed to Jive Records, K. Michelle‘s new single is entitled, aptly enough, “How Many Times“. The song was written by Sean Garrett and produced by Blac Elvis. K. Michelle will release “Pain Medicine” later this year, an album that is poised to take the music world by storm.

The Heat Magazine had the opportunity to speak with K. Michelle recently.  Here’s what she had to say:

THE HEAT MAGAZINE: Tell us a little about yourself.

K. MICHELLE: I’m a single mother and a college graduate from Florida A&M.  I am also the protégée of Mr. R. Kelly – Robert Kelly.  I’m signed to Jive Records and I’m a songwriter, producer and singer.

THE HEAT MAGAZINE: Impressive. Tell us the idea behind your single that was recently released. What brought you to make such a song?

K. MICHELLE: Well, the song actually was written by Sean Garrett.  He’s amazing when it comes to bringing things to life. Basically what happened was that we sat down for a couple of days before we came up with this song. He doesn’t just like to write. He likes to know what the artist is going through. He talked to me about a lot of different things that I was going through. As individuals, we have to ask ourselves how many times we have to go through the same stuff before there’s a better way. I was just saying how my life has been a cycle and I’m just trying to get it in order, so that’s where “How Many Times” came from.

THE HEAT MAGAZINE: Tell our readers what you’d like them to know about you.

K. MICHELLE: Just that I love them. I take a lot of time with my fans. I actually have a number where they call me. I am a fan friendly person. I need them because they give me motivation because some days I’m down and they uplift me just as much as they say I uplift them. I take a lot of time with my fans. For people who don’t know me, you can follow my Twitter and Facebook accounts, and you’ll see that I spend a huge amount of time for my fans.

THE HEAT MAGAZINE: How is working with R. Kelly? That must be incredible.

K. MICHELLE: It is. It’s definitely amazing. You know when I’d be in there, I’d have to pinch myself – “Is this really R. Kelly?” – and when he would call, I would think, “Wow, this is really R. Kelly.” It’s amazing. I’ve learned so much. I’ve grown a lot and I’m just really grateful to him for everything he’s done for me. He’s taught me a lot about just being a woman in the business and about this not being a popularity contest like it is for so many now. It’s more about just creating the music and the package and it’ll connect when it connects. You have to focus on giving the people something they can feel.

THE HEAT MAGAZINE: Where would you like to see your career in 5 years?

K. MICHELLE: In about 5 years, I would like to be developed and be able to do all the different kinds of music that I love. When you just start off, you have to build and you give them a little bit. I’m just getting my feet wet. I love country music. I’d like to do maybe even an urban-type country album – just different things. I want my son to be good. I want to take care of my mama because she’s helped me so much with my son – my mom and my father. I just want to have peace of mind.

  1. I like her. I heard of her a while back, never knew she came up under R. Kelly though. I been feeling her music so far; and having Sean Garrett on board as a writer is always a WIN! Hope to see her succeed in the game and be around for a while.
(PS. Her ass is fake right? lol lol… ignorant, i know!)
