Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Train in Bearden

Bearden, AR — In a tragic incident this afternoon, a Union Pacific train fatally struck a pedestrian on Olive Street near the railroad crossing in Bearden. Bearden Police were alerted to the scene at 1:59 PM after the collision was reported by Union Pacific.

Police Chief Nathan Greely, who was the first to respond, identified the victim as 29-year-old Alexis Anderson of Bearden. Chief Greely explained that Anderson had been walking along the tracks as the train approached. According to statements from the train’s engineer and conductor, multiple horn blasts were sounded in an attempt to alert Anderson, and the train’s brakes were engaged in an emergency stop. Unfortunately, Anderson did not move off the tracks and was struck.

Following the incident, authorities notified Anderson’s family, and the county coroner has taken custody of the body. Union Pacific officials are traveling from Shreveport to assist with the ongoing investigation, which will include an analysis of video footage from the locomotive to determine further details.

This tragic event is a reminder of the dangers present near active railways. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

Note: The locomotive shown in images is not connected to this incident.
