It was a Christmas to remember for all the wrong reasons.
A mother who tricked her son into thinking she bought him an Xbox has sparked fury over the internet after a video of the prank went viral.
Mystery surrounds whether the boy ever received the toy.
A young boy named Jonathan eagerly unwraps a gift as his family looks on in a video posted by his brother on YouTube, using the handle theycallhimart.
His older brother, who uploaded the video, explains in the description: ‘My mom decides to buy my brother an Xbox 360 for christmas (sic).
‘We leave that night and return the next morning to find he has sneaked a look… just as my mom thought he would, this is the result…and yes he did get the game i will try to post the second video.’
The clip shows the boy looking up with excitement as a green box labelled Xbox 360 peeks through the wrapping paper – only to discover it’s filled with clothes instead of the gaming system.
Laughter erupts in the room as his brother eggs him on from behind the camera, seeing the boy is upset.
‘Jonathan you need winter clothes, what did you think it was?’ he asks, adding, ‘Jonathan we can’t afford an Xbox 360… so look at the camera and cry.’
The camera zooms in on the boy’s face as tears well up. A woman in the background covers her hand over her mouth to hide her laughter.
