Missouri woman who served 43 years in prison freed after murder conviction overturned

Sandra Hemme, a 63-year-old Missouri woman who served 43 years in prison, was released on Friday after her murder conviction was overturned. Despite the Missouri attorney general’s prolonged effort to keep her incarcerated, a judge ordered her release, even threatening the attorney general’s office with contempt of court. Hemme was freed from the Chillicothe prison and joyfully reunited with her family at a nearby park, where she embraced her daughter, granddaughter, and her overjoyed sister, Joyce Ann Kays.
