Man kills mother, 2 sisters on Mother’s Day; later gunned down by law enforcement in another state

In a tragic incident on Mother’s Day, a Mississippi man allegedly killed his mother and two sisters, leaving the community in shock and mourning. Ridgeland Police Chief Brian Myers reported that officers received a distressing call about the triple homicide around 3:30 p.m. on Sunday.

The victims have been identified as 76-year-old Ida Thomas Welch, 56-year-old Vicky Renee Welch, and 42-year-old Crystal Lynn Welch. The loss of three family members in such a violent manner has deeply saddened and shocked their loved ones and the community.

Following the incident, an arrest warrant was issued for Ivory James Welch III, and the U.S. Marshals Task Force has initiated a search for him. Authorities said he managed to travel to Arizona before being located by troopers, where he was killed in a shootout. Crystal Welch was a member of the Mississippi ACLU Board of Directors since 2023.

The tragic loss of Ida Thomas Welch, Vicky Renee Welch, and Crystal Lynn Welch has left a void in the community, and their memory will be cherished by those who knew and loved them. As the investigation continues, the community is coming together to support the surviving family members and to seek justice for the victims.
