Man arrested after telling Denny’s employees he was their new manager & there to cook his own food

James Summers - sent by corporate?

The American diner might always be open – but that doesn’t give customers free reign to come in and cook their own food.

Try telling that to Wisconsin man James B. Summers, 52, who not only cooked his own food at popular family restaurant Dennys but tried to convince staff he was the new manager.

Summers walked into the northeast Madison restaurant on Tuesday around 4.30pm carrying a briefcase, maroon tie and long black trench coat.

Much to the surprise of the current manager, the 52-year-old told staff he was the new general manager, that he had worked for Dennys for the last 30 years and was starting his new job that day.

The current GM assured him he had got the wrong restaurant and told him she had not received any word from corporate headquarters about a new boss.

When she left him to call her supervisors, Summers entered the kitchen and began to cook himself up a feast of burger and fries while helping himself to a soft drink
.

According to WISC Madison, the real GM informed him while he was tucking into his meal that she knew he was an intruder.

Unfazed, Summers simply informed her she had not received the memo, that it was a misunderstanding and their must have been a simple mix-up with paperwork.

When police arrived, they determined that Summers was in fact an imposter and when they searched him found a stun gun on his belt – which he did not have a permit for.

He was charged with fraud hotel or restaurant keeper, possession of an electric weapon, disorderly conduct and possession of drug paraphernalia.
