Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi has reportedly ordered his security forces to sabotage Libyan oil facilities, as reported by Time magazine earlier today. The forces have supposedly been ordered to begin blowing up oil pipelines to cut the flow of oil to Mediterranean ports.
It has long been thought that Gaddafi may well be one of the most dangerous leaders in the world. He has vowed to fight his ousting until the “last drop of blood.â€
Time is also reporting that Gaddafi only has the support of about 5,000 soldiers in his army and that the Libyan leader has told insiders that he realizes he cannot take control over Libya with the troops he has. It seems the threat of worldwide fuel shortages is his only option at this point.
Human rights groups believe that about 300 people have already been killed in Libyan anti-government protests.
Leaders around the world are commenting that his recent speeches are even more disturbing than in the past. Some countries are even considering sanctions again Libya. The UN Security Council has condemned Gaddafi’s crackdown of anti-government protesters and has demanded an immediate end to the violence.
Yesterday, the Arab League suspended Libya’s participation in its council meetings, citing the North African country’s crackdown on protesters. Libya is barred from taking part in the Arab League’s meetings until leader Muammar Gaddafi responds to the council’s demands.
