HOUSTON—A manager shot and killed a man who was vandalizing property at a northeast Houston motel early Tuesday, according to Houston police.
It happened at the Legacy Inn in the 9500 block of Dodson at Tidwell around 1 a.m.
Police said a man started freaking out in the motel parking lot; knocking over a motorcycle and even damaging his own car. The man then went inside the front office and began turning over furniture and knocking things around.
The man did not have a weapon, but police said the motel manager was in fear of his safety.
“He was told several times by the manager of this property to leave,” said Officer John Villareal, HPD Homicide. “After several times he was told to leave, he did not, went inside the lobby, started destroying property inside of the lobby and then the manager, I guess, felt like he needed to shoot.”
The man died at the scene. No charges have been filed against the manager.
