(HEAT EXCLUSIVE) Veteran rapper Devious is back with a new hit (Part 2)

When we left off in Part 1 of The Heat’s exclusive with Devious, he was giving us the secret to his success. Check out the rest of our interview with Devious below:

THE HEAT MAGAZINE: Tell us about your new project.

DEVIOUS: The new Devious project is a revelation. It’s a full circle arrival in a sense. The journey has given me my due through the years but the flow as of late is definitely a blessing from God. I’m having fun, being creative, developing good music for the masses, and taking a professional approach in regards to the business side of it. I’ve been able to work with several music colleagues and producers. It’s the project many would want to hear. All barriers that may have stopped me from working with close colleagues in the past are not an issue so music is now the focus again and not any politics. It’s a great project.

THE HEAT MAGAZINE: Having worked with the legendary Ice Mike over the course of many years, how has that been?

DEVIOUS: Ice Mike is a landmark, a true representer, and loyal soldier in music. Mike has always dedicated himself in music not just towards me but many New Orleans artists. We have a long history of being homies since the legendary era of New Orleans rap. Still remember the days of coolin’ with Mike, Tim Smooth, Bust Down, and Dj Lil Daddy.

THE HEAT MAGAZINE: How did Ice Mike & you put this single together?

DEVIOUS: Actually, WHY YO? is the second single Mike and I have created. After I secured distribution for my comq1pany, it made sense to do another single with Mike that could represent our journey and get an opportunity to be exposed on a larger scale. Uniquely, Mike and I have mixed elements from the beginning of our success in rap with new creativity. It’s taking off on radio in multiple markets. Personally, it’s bigger than a record – it’s a milestone in our career.

THE HEAT MAGAZINE: What’s in the future for Devious?

DEVIOUS: Maximizing my potential in the music industry as a songwriter, artist, C.E.O, and continuing my professional career outside of music. Looking forward to continuing to enjoy the priceless attributes of life; happiness.

THE HEAT MAGAZINE: A lot of younger, aspiring artists are reading this interview. If you could give them an important piece of advice, what would that be?

DEVIOUS: Learn, Know, and Understand. The music industry is a model unlike many and it has ups and downs. It’s lucrative and at times it can be a struggle. Having a great understanding of the business in the main areas, being able to absorb good consultation, and trial and error are a part of it. Find your identity and make power moves when the opportunity knocks. Stay ready, and depend on your creator.
