The former neighborhood watch officer, who was acquitted in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin in 2013, was seen walking to an ambulance following the incident in Lake Mary on Monday.
George Zimmerman was shot at by a man who accused him of threatening behavior last year on Monday.
Matt Apperson’s bullet missed Zimmerman, who was acquitted in 2013 of murdering Trayvon Martin, but his windshield was shattered and he suffered cuts to the face, his attorney said.
Zimmerman was treated for minor injuries in hospital following the 12.45pm incident in Lake Mary, Florida but has since been released.
The incident comes eight months after Apperson told police that Zimmerman had threatened him with a gun during a road rage incident.
