Gas or groceries for guns with no questions asked.
Individuals possessing legal or illegal firearms can bring in up to three to Tiger Lane at the Fairgrounds this Saturday, Aug. 22, at 8 a.m., and trade them in for a $50 Mapco gas gift card, a $50 Kroger Store gift card, or game tickets to the Memphis Grizzlies or the University of Memphis.
No questions asked.
“This is primarily to get firearms off the street – illegal weapons that individuals possess with no viable means to get rid of them,” said state Rep. G.A. Hardaway (D-Dist. 92), one of the event partners. “You just can’t throw them into the trash.”
“Gas or Groceries for Gun” is the by-product of two gun buy-back programs that outgoing City Councilman Myron Lowery (Dist. 8, Pos. 3) helped to organized five years ago. “Gifts for Guns” and “Done with Guns” yielded and destroyed more than 2,000 firearms.
