Four Dead, Cities Overheat As Heatwave Breaks Records Across U.S.

Students are sweating it out in un-air-conditioned classrooms, highways are buckling and cities are open up cooling centres for overheated residents – as the temperature rises across America.

A heatwave that has built up in the South and Midwest is spreading to the Northeast and records are being broken all over the U.S. as temperatures soar to highs of more than 100F in some areas.

The intense sunshine, rising humidity and hot air have led forecasters to urge people to take extreme caution on Wednesday and Thursday – especially the very young, elderly and outdoor workers.
