The boyfriend of a woman who was shot dead in her home has blamed their two-year-old toddler for the shooting.
Julia Bennett, 33, was found dead in her Miramar, Florida, apartment by police after they received a 911 call.
According to police, the father of the two-and-a-half-year-old boy, who hasn’t been identified, made the call.
He told authorities the gun, a semi-automatic Glock, somehow became accessible to the toddler who accidentally fired it.
Miramar police spokeswoman Tania Rues said that the father has a concealed weapons permit for the gun.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation.
According to WSVN TV, Bennett has other children, though the toddler boy is the only one who lives with her. She and the child’s father are not married, Rues said.
The child is currently in the custody of Florida’s Department of Children and Families
