COVINGTON, LA (AP) – A Covington man was arrested after he accidentally pocket-dialed 9-1-1, allowing police to overhear a conversation about smoking marijuana.
Officers said they listened as 21-year-old Jared Schlore argued with his girlfriend. As the dispute escalated, police reported hearing discussions about marijuana.
Police traced the phone to a parked vehicle near Louisiana Highway 25.
Officers arrived while the dispatcher continued to listen to the conversation and update police. When police found the pair in a pick-up truck, the dispatcher could hear the officers’ voices onthe phone.
Police said that confirmed Schlore was the unintentional caller. Police said they found marijuana and pipes in the vehicle.
Schlore was arrested for simple possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. It was unclear whether he has an attorney.
