A groom traded his wedding day for a court appearance after being accused of rape.
William Giraldo, 24, was charged with raping a 28-year-old woman in the lobby of her Brooklyn apartment building after following her from a Dunkin Donuts shop.
His family had recognised him in CCTV footage released by police after the attack.
Giraldo’s bride-to-be was by his side after he was brought to court from Rikers Island prison.
The taxi driver has been charged in connection with one of four recent sex assaults in the area.
Giraldo had told police that ‘it was a misunderstanding’.
The victim later picked him out of a line-up.
Giraldo’s lawyer, Heriberto Cabrera, said that victims of three earlier attacks failed to identify the same suspect.
The lawyer added that his client presented ‘ironclad’ alibis at the time of the other alleged sexual assaults.
He also said Giraldo had been driving a passenger to Kennedy Airport at the time of the attack he is accused of.
