The Heat Magazine Asks: What Does Winning This Award Mean to You?
Grateful. Grateful. Grateful! My heart is full, and I am truly honored to receive the Inaugural Breakfast at Tiffany’s Experience Pillar of Community Award in Health & Wellness. To be nominated was already humbling, but to win knowing that so many took time out of their busy lives to vote for me is a blessing I do not take lightly. I am beyond thankful for this recognition.
I give all glory to God for ordering my steps and for placing me on the heart of the person who nominated me. To every single person who supported me, lifted me up, and believed in my work, thank you. Your encouragement fuels my passion and reminds me why I do what I do.
When I chose to become a social worker, I knew my life’s purpose was to inspire, empower, and uplift others. Even in high school, I understood that success is not just about what we accomplish but about how we serve. Mental health advocacy has always been my passion, and my commitment to making a difference in my community has never wavered.
I often remind people to be mindful of how they treat others because many are suffering in silence, fighting battles we cannot see. I know this firsthand because after having my second son, I personally struggled with postpartum depression. That experience pushed me to create Yes Ma’am: Elevating Mothers & Empowering Mental Health because mental health does not discriminate. It can affect anyone. But the key is knowing that help is available, and no one has to suffer alone.
I especially want to acknowledge my family, the foundation of my strength. My husband, Mr. Leonardo Glover, is my rock, and I love him with every fiber of my being. Our two brilliant and amazing sons, Sasuke and Samson, are my greatest inspirations, constantly reminding me why this work is so important.
I also want to extend my deepest gratitude to my beautiful mother, Mrs. Terry Smith, and my bonus father, Mr. Tracy Smith, for their unwavering love and support. To my parents-in-love, Dr. Leslie and Mrs. Mattie Glover, thank you for embracing me as your own and always encouraging me. And to my Uncle Dennis Johnson and Aunt Arlene Dolls, your unconditional love and support mean the world to me.
This award is not just a recognition of my efforts but a testament to the power of community, advocacy, and the belief that we can make a difference. To everyone who has supported me on this journey, thank you. You are the best, and you deserve the best in every area of your life. There is greatness inside of you. Go out and be great!
