Dirt Cheap Files for Bankruptcy, Plans to Close All Stores

Dirt Cheap, a popular discount retail chain, will soon shut its doors as its parent company, Channel Control Merchants, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Court documents filed on Thursday reveal the company’s decision to close all stores in an effort to resolve its financial difficulties.

Channel Control Merchants, which also operates Treasure Hunt, is based in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Local reports indicate that the company plans to close all of its more than 60 Dirt Cheap locations, which span across Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Texas, Georgia, and Tennessee.

The company is expected to begin liquidating assets as part of the bankruptcy process in the coming weeks. Further details on store closures are anticipated to be announced soon.
