In February 2022, the City of Memphis fell victim to a financial scam, resulting in a loss of $773,000. The city had been making regular payments to Zellner Construction but, following a fraudulent request purportedly from Zellner Construction, the city changed the account details and mistakenly wired the funds to a fraudulent account. By the time the error was discovered, it was too late to retrieve the funds.
