Chyna Young, an 18-year-old who inspired others with her determination to remain part of her child’s life despite her own devastating injuries, died Wednesday .
Young spent months at TIRR Memorial Hermann after being shot and paralyzed from the neck down. She gave birth to her daughter, Jada, in October and then returned to TIRR to continue her rehabilitation.
She left Houston last month and moved to a nursing home in her hometown of Crowley, La. Young apparently developed a respiratory infection and transferred back to the hospital where she died.
Young was paralyzed from the neck down last June, shot by her former boyfriend at her mother’s home in Crowley. At the time, she was three months pregnant and preparing to begin classes.
