A Chicago man has been charged in connection with a 2023 expressway shooting on I-57 that claimed the lives of three individuals, including two children. Sean Richardson, 20, was arrested by Chicago police on August 19, 2024, on unrelated charges. Following his arrest, Illinois State Police charged him with three counts of first-degree murder for his alleged role in the February 19, 2023, shooting.
The incident occurred on northbound I-57 near 116th Street in the Morgan Park neighborhood. According to authorities, Richardson allegedly fired multiple shots at a car, hitting the driver and three passengers. When troopers arrived at the scene, they found the victims suffering from gunshot wounds. A 19-year-old man and a 13-year-old boy were pronounced dead at the scene, while the fourth victim, a one-year-old girl, was transported to a local hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victims as 19-year-old Nasir Hall, his one-year-old daughter A-mara Hall, and 13-year-old William Smith. Smith, who was an eighth-grade student at the Montessori School of Englewood, was related to the other victims, according to school officials.
