California Man Dies in Christmas House Fire After Saving Family and Searching for Engagement Ring

A tragic Christmas Day unfolded in California as Steven Weatherford, 37, lost his life in a house fire after heroically rescuing his family and attempting to retrieve an engagement ring he planned to use for a New Year’s Eve proposal.

Lashante Mayo, Weatherford’s girlfriend, revealed that she had just learned of his plans to propose earlier that morning. Weatherford’s selfless act of saving his family and his love-fueled determination to recover the ring have left an indelible mark on those who knew him.

The family now mourns the loss of a devoted father and partner while honoring his bravery and sacrifice.
