Talk about mistakes weighing on your conscience …. Houma, Louisiana authorities encountered some interesting car burglars who returned to the victim’s home to apologize for stealing from them.
50-year old William Poindexter and 48-year old Ernest Mart, both Houma residents, were booked with simple burglary and held on $50,000.00 bond. Their accomplice is being sought. Mart is wheelchair bound.
They allegedly stole a car radio, bottle of cologne and two cellphone chargers from an SUV about 1 a.m. this past Monday. The owner spotted them and then fled – with one of them pushing the wheelchair bound man.
Sgt. Kyle Faulk of the Houma Police Department said, “You don’t generally see burglars in wheelchairs. It’s not a real speedy getaway vehicle.” Ummmmm, yeah ….. we just bet.
Poindexter and Mart returned to the woman’s home to apologize before police arrived later Monday. Police said her father chased them, and they were later caught by police. The victim told police, “They were going real slow because of the guy in the wheelchair, so they couldn’t really run like normal.”
