LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The FBI plans to announce dozens of arrests, including of five law enforcement officers, stemming from a major four-year investigation into corruption in eastern Arkansas, a special agent for the bureau told The Associated Press on Tuesday.
In addition to the dozens arrested, more people have been indicted, FBI supervisory special agent Jason Peck said ahead of a Tuesday afternoon news conference. Authorities are also carrying out multiple search warrants and serving subpoenas in eastern Arkansas, he said.
A federal court is in the process of unsealing the charges and the indictments are expected to be made public Tuesday afternoon. Those arrested in the investigation are expected to appear in federal court in Little Rock on Thursday.
Peck declined to specify the nature of the charges before the news conference. Christopher Thyer, the U.S. attorney for eastern Arkansas, and Valerie Parlave, special agent in charge for the FBI’s Little Rock office, are expected to appear at the news conference.
