Airlines have been hit with a new passenger ‘bill of rights’ which will see bumped passengers receiving up to $1,300 in compensation pay outs – a 63 per cent rise on current penalty rates.
Among the new rules – which will come into force in just 120 days – airlines will also have to refund baggage fees for lost luggage and are banned from hiding tax, baggage and extra boarding costs.
But while passenger rights groups praised the charter, airlines have hit back, saying the move will only delay passengers further and lead to ticket price hikes.
